neurótica:bioII es la segunda manifestación pública de un proyecto de investigación que examina la ansiedad de la sociedad actual generada por el acelerado desarrollo en tecnociencia. Neurótica:bio explora la percepción social de los avances de las modernas biotecnologías y los temores y expectativas asociadas a lo “bio”.

CAPSULA es una plataforma de investigación curatorial formada en el 2005 por Ulla Taipale y Mónica Bello Bugallo cuyo área de interés es el encuentro entre el arte, la ciencia y la naturaleza. Su principal objetivo es construir puentes de diálogo entre diversas disciplinas con el fin de estimular el pensamiento crítico mediante el intercambio de conocimiento entorno a temas de debate contemporáneo.

Many people have asked us why the Justice Department is pursuing this case.

Meaning, when the Buffalo Health Department affirmed there was nothing dangerous in the Kurtz home and that Hope Kurtz died of natural causes, when the FBI saw that the possession of scientific equipment and materials in Kurtz’s home studio was completely consistent with his practice as an artist and that his practice has a long, public, and institutionally validated record, then, why didn’t they drop the case? When it became clear even through the Grand Jury investigation that this was not a case of bioterrorism, why did they pursue it? Couldn’t they see that Critical Art Ensemble’s work is art?

In May of 2004, Steve Kurtz's wife of 20 years died in her sleep of natural causes. Kurtz is a founding member of an award-winning collective Critical Art Ensemble whose work aimed at informing audiences about the lack of regulation and potential risks of genetically modified food. When emergency medical technicials responded to his 911 call, they saw in his home petri dishes--part of an installation--filled with harmless bacterial cultures. They called the FBI.

El sábado 20 de Octubre se celebra en el espacio Intermediae-El Matadero la presentación pública de Neurótica:bioII que consistirá en una jornada de eventos diseñados entorno al tema del impacto social de las biotecnología modernas.

El proyecto Neurótica se inició en el 2006 por parte de CAPSULA, plataforma de investigación y de creación de proyectos curatoriales entorno al área de confluencia entre arte, ciencia y naturaleza. Neurótica examina el estado de tensión y la ansiedad generado por el desarrollo acelerado tecnocientífico en la sociedad actual. El proyecto pretende construir plataformas de investigación abiertas por medio del diseño y realización de encuentros entre diversos agentes culturales con el fin de generar diálogo y estimular el debate entorno a eventos claves del mundo contemporáneo.
